Sparsh Shrivastava Says Playing Deepak In Laapataa Ladies 'Change You As Man', Refuses With Term 'Green Flag' | EXCLUSIVE

Sparsh Shrivastava wants to play more characters touted as "green flag," even though he doesn't agree wth the term. Infact he believes if actors like him take up the onus, they can change the perception women have that "all men are dogs!" Sparsh believes that his Deepak in Laapataa Ladies did that to a certain degree.In an exclusive chat with Zoom, Sparsh gave insights into how he feels male characters can change the image of men. "I think we need more of such characters for the existing generation of men to understand how to treat women or society at large. It shouldn't be termed as 'green flag.' It should be the normal thing to be," he said.ALSO READ:

Sparsh on playing Deepak in Laapataa Ladies Laapataa Ladies has been directed by Kiran Rao, and also stars Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, Ravi Kishan and Chhaya Kadam. Sparsh played Deepak, a new husband whose wife gets swapped in a train journey. The actor won accolades by doing his role with utmost sincerty, and making Deepak a benchmark in terms of the support and yearning he portrays onscreen for his newly wedded wife. Despite coming from a village where women are expected to be kept behind veils, Deepak fights the societal setup to get back his wife.While many called him the perfect husband, Sparsh said in the interview that characters like Deepak need to be normalised. "Calling terms like 'gentleman' or 'green flag' is just a statement. I don't relate with it because that's who a normal man should be. I definitely relate more with such characters. It helps me open that hidden side of me."

On coming from a patriarchal background He shared that coming from Agra, and being born in a village of Rajasthan, he has seen power in his society back home. But Laapataa Ladies open up his outlook. "Before doing Deepak, I was not aware that I have this side to me. I've seen men in a different way, grown up with a different mentality. I had that influence in my head. But after doing Deepak, being surrounded by Kiran Rao and other female co-actors, you change as a man. So I want to portray more and more of such 'green flag' characters so that I can at least be more 'gentleman,' as people say," he shared.
