Mexico City: Renowned Mexican wrestler Rey Mysterio Senior, who was the uncle of WWE Superstar and Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio Junior, has passed away at the age of 66. The wrestling legend, whose real name was Miguel Ángel López Díaz, was also the grandfather of WWE Superstar Dominik Mysterio. He had a remarkable career in several Mexican promotions, including the World Wrestling Association (WWA).
According to media, Mysterio Senior began his career in January 1976 and made his mark in professional wrestling organizations such as Pro Wrestling Revolution, Tijuana Wrestling, and the World Wrestling Association. To distinguish him from his nephew, he was often referred to as Rey Mysterio Senior, while Dominik is his grandson. His granddaughter, Aaliyah, has also appeared in WWE on several occasions.
He won the WWA World Junior Lightweight Championship and, along with Rey Mysterio Junior, the WWA Tag Team Championship. This sad news comes just a few weeks after the death of Rey Mysterio Junior’s father and Dominik’s grandfather, Roberto Gutiérrez, who passed away on November 17 at the age of 76.
