Vigilant BSF Meghalaya personnel, working with the Meghalaya Police, successfully stopped a smuggling attempt and confiscated a significant amount of apples, livestock, and other contraband valued at Rs 31.13 lakh in the EKH and WJH districts as part of their ongoing efforts to fight smuggling.
The Meghalaya BSF said in a news statement that these things were meant to be trafficked into Bangladesh.
Troops of the 04 BSF Meghalaya conducted a coordinated search operation close to the international border in response to particular information, working with local police.
Numerous unsupervised livestock were found strewn over the area and tethered to trees during the operation. The livestock were successfully taken out of the bush by the combined action team, who quickly surrounded the location.
BSF Meghalaya also carried out a search operation in a wooded area based on particular intelligence inputs on fruit smuggling.
Many fruit boxes that had been hidden and discarded in the jungle with the intention of smuggling them into Bangladesh over the Meghalaya border were found by the crew.
The Meghalaya Police and Customs will take further legal action with the confiscated livestock and illegal goods.
