Chennai: A 31-year-old woman reportedly attempted to kill herself and her two sons in Pullapuram, near Kilpauk, on Saturday. The woman had been living separately from her husband. On the day of the incident, the woman argued with her. This upset her, and the woman locked herself in a room with her kids, while her relatives kept knocking at the door. When she opened the door, her aunt was shocked to see her throat slit.
The woman and the kids were immediately rushed to a hospital. One of her sons, aged 18 months, succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, the 31-year-old woman and her four-year-old son were shifted to the ICU. The woman, identified as R Divya, had married her husband Ramkumar on September 12, 2019. Ramkumar works at a courier firm, reported Times of India.

The spouse used to have frequent fights, following their separation. The woman returned to her parents’ home, while Ramkumar was also living at her parents’ house in Perungalathur.
On Saturday, the two had a conversation that turned into an argument. Later, R Divya locked herself in her room with her children. Padmavathi, Divya’s Aunt, tried multiple times to calm her down, asking her to open the doors.
However, Divya did not open the door until she allegedly cut her and the kids’ throats, leading to severe injuries. Padmavathi rushed to call the neighbours to seek help. Divya and the kids were taken to the hospital. While the infant died, Divya and her elder son were in critical condition.
The police have registered a case into the matter, leading to an investigation into the matter. The police are probing the matter through all possible angles.
