and love to thrive on , paving and during the chilly winter months.

Both moss and weeds give off an unsightly aesthetic, but moss also becomes a slipping hazard over the wet winter period.

Paul Mattimore, the founder of with over two decades of experience, has come forward with top-notch advice to help gardeners reclaim their patios and make them spotless, free from weeds and moss.

For those battling "stubborn" weeds or moss on their patios, Paul suggests a "perfect" method.

He pointed out that a 40p kitchen essential can work wonders in clearing unwanted growth on paving and that's good old table salt.

The process is simple to follow in 15 minutes: boil a pot of water, mix in a hefty dose of salt until it dissolves completely.

Next, douse the pesky weeds or moss with the hot salty solution. Paul explained: "The boiling water will kill the weeds or moss, while the salt will prevent them from never coming back."

However, he cautioned against spilling this mixture on any nearby plants or grass as it could cause damage.

Salt, a common household item, is also incredibly affordable, with prices as low as 40p online at Ocado.

While Paul raved over the effectiveness of this technique, he warned that salt may harm certain patio materials.

To ensure your paving slabs remain unscathed, it's wise to conduct a patch test before treating the entire area.

Paul revealed that white vinegar can also effectively tackle weeds and moss on patios.

To try this method, combine equal parts and water in a bucket, then pour the solution onto the patio and scrub it with a stiff-bristled brush.

He explained: "The acid in the vinegar will help to break down dirt and grime, while the water will dilute the vinegar and prevent it from damaging your patio."

Following a thorough scrub, rinse the patio with water. If stubborn stains persist, consider repeating the process or using a more concentrated vinegar solution. Paul assured that this technique is "safe, effective, and eco-friendly".
