Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the data of customers added by telecom companies on 23 December, in which on one hand Jio and Vi have lost their users. On the other hand, BSNL has added 5 lakh users and Airtel has added 19 lakh users. According to the monthly data released, the number of Bharti Airtel customers has increased by 19.28 lakh in October. Whereas in September there was a decrease of 14.35 lakh users.
According to the report, the subscriber base of Reliance Jio has also decreased by about 37 lakhs. However, despite the loss, the company retained its top position with 39.9% market share while Bharti Airtel is at the second position with 33.5% share. Apart from this, Vodafone-Idea has also lost about 19.77 lakh users, which is more than the loss of 15.5 lakh in September 2024.
At the same time, its total market share has been 18.30 percent. As of October 31, 2024, private telecom companies had 91.78% market share of wireless subscribers, while two PSU companies BSNL and MTNL had a market share of only 8.22%. After the release of TRAI data, shares of all three telecom companies rose by about 2%.
According to TRAI report, almost all areas of the country except Mumbai, Karnataka, Assam, Gujarat and Odisha have seen a decline in the number of their wireless subscribers in October. Bharti Airtel Limited has the highest number of machine-to-machine (M2M) cellular mobile connections at 29.08 million and has a market share of 51.82%. According to the monthly report, it is followed by Vodafone Idea Limited, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited and BSNL, whose market share is 26.75%, 15.95% and 5.48%.
