With comments that many see as a subtle jab at actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha and his daughter, actress Sonakshi Sinha, poet Kumar Vishwas has ignited a new storm.

Without mentioning names, Vishwas said at a poetry event in Meerut: “Apne bachhon ko Sita Ji ki behnon aur Bhagwan Ram ke bhaiyon ke naam yaad karaiye.” Jo samajh jayein unki taliyan uthtein, ek sanket de raha hoon. What is the difference between Geeta Sunwayi and Ramayan Padhwayi? Aapke ghar ki naam to ‘Ramayan’ ho aur aapke ghar ki Shree Lakshmi ko koi aur uthakar le jaye, anya tha aisa na ho ki.”

Shatrughan Sinha’s home is called “Ramayana” for background, and on June 23 of this year, his daughter Sonakshi married Zaheer Iqbal.

Vishwas was sharply attacked by Congress politician Supriya Shrinate, who described his comments as “cheap” and “lewd.” She attacked the poet for disparaging women in order to get praise in a long X post.

Will a girl’s marriage, food, clothing, and love be determined by her self-proclaimed religious guardians? When your own bouncers beat up a renowned doctor, you shouldn’t even raise questions about your background. If your employees act in such a manner while you are in charge, it is your responsibility,” she said.

The ‘Lootera’ actress has been criticized before like this. Sonakshi was chastised by veteran actor Mukesh Khanna for failing to respond to a question on the Ramayana during a performance. Sonakshi had just replied to Khanna, reminding him of the ‘Ramayana”s teachings on forgiveness.

“Mukesh Khanna ji, dear sir…I just came across a remark you made claiming that my father is to blame for my incorrect response to a question on the Ramayana at a performance I saw a long time ago. First of all, let me remind you that two ladies on the hot seat that day were unable to answer the identical question, yet you still chose to use my name and alone my name for very clear reasons,” she said in a portion of her Instagram post.

On June 23 of this year, Sonakshi and Zaheer Iqbal were married in front of their loved ones at their Mumbai home. The wedding was small. After the wedding, several Bollywood celebs attended a party at Bastian, a well-known restaurant and event space in Mumbai. Before tying the knot, Sonakshi and Zaheer dated for seven years.
