Its not an easy task to leave behind stable careers in search of something more fulfilling considering all the risks involved. The big career switch can feel daunting with the fear of failure looming large. However for some the risk pays off in unexpected ways. By embracing uncertainty many individuals find themselves not only happier but also financially thriving earning far more than they would have in their previous roles. Today we will be discussing a woman who quit her PhD to become an adult content creator.
She calls her new career choice a gamble
YouTuber Zara Dar once a vocal advocate for women in science and technology decided to leave her PhD program and become an OnlyFans model. In a video titled PhD Dropout To OnlyFans Model she admitted that while the choice was difficult she wasnt feeling particularly sad about it. She framed her switch to OnlyFans as more than just a career change - she sees it as a bold gamble on her future. She said Moving on to doing OnlyFans and content creation full-time its not just a career choice it feels kind of like a gamble on the direction of my entire life.
She says that it was not the life she wanted
She has amassed over 100000 subscribers on YouTube and previously posted content like tutorials on machine learning and neural networks. While she had once considered a career in academia she ultimately chose to leave her PhD program. She reflected on the choice between the stability of an academic career and the possibility of becoming a professor mentoring students and contributing to research. However the compromises involved in this lifestyle led her to pursue a different path. She said People whose lifestyles I thought I envied are tied to someone elses vision. Theyll spend their lives working for a company and doing things they dont necessarily enjoy. Their work might win someone elses wealth and fame while they stay in the background. Expendable they will constantly worry about getting laid off and planning their lives around their salaries budgeting to pay bills and likely renting a place to live.
She reveals that she earns millions now
Having earned a masters in computer science at the University of Texas the content creator envisioned a different future - one free from the constraints of both academia and corporate life. She emphasized that her move away from traditional career paths allowed her to explore subjects that truly sparked her interest rather than being limited by the priorities of academic funding.
She shared that she began her OnlyFans content creation as a side project while still pursuing her PhD and through this endeavour she earned $1 million. This money went toward paying off her familys mortgage and purchasing a car. She said Ive made $1 million. Thankfully I avoided taking out any student loans. Now I have an investment portfolio and am planning to buy my own house. These accomplishments are a testament to the tangible rewards of carving my own path and the freedom it has brought me.
She concluded by saying that the average US professor earns around $100000 annually often spending more time writing grant proposals than engaging in research. For her this lifestyle didnt align with her personal goals or vision for her future.
