2024 saw some shocking results in Test cricket. India lost to New Zealand at home while Bangladesh defeated Pakistan in Pakistan. New Zealand were hammered by England at home while the Three Lions suffered series defeats in India and Pakistan. One of the key reasons why the top teams did not have a dominating year was the form of a few big guns. India, especially were hurt by the lack of runs from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli that saw the team lose a Test to England at home before being whitewashed by New Zealand. They, however, pulled things slightly back by beating Australia in Perth.
Flop XI Test XI Of 2024Rohit Sharma and Tom Latham had average outings in the year, with both averaging just over 26 this year. Being the openers, they failed to give their team solid starts, resulting in the team falling behind in the matches. Virat Kohli and Babar Azam were the backbone of their respective teams, but the veterans endured a horrible run in 2024. Kohli and Babar averaged 25 and 18 respectively in the year which is really shocking given the standards they set for themselves. Babar was even dropped from the Pakistan squad for the England Tests. England's Ollie Pope and Ben Stokes also did not live up to the expectations this year. Pope could only muster 994 runs at an average of 33 while Stokes looked a shadow of his own with 607 runs at 26. Australian greats Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja also saw a significant dip in form, with averages in 20s. With the ball, Mohammed Siraj wasn't at his best and picked 32 wickets at an average of 27. New Zealand great Tim Southee's numbers were worse with 17 wickets in 11 matches at an average of nearly a 60. 13 wickets in five matches by Shakib Al Hasan and 28 wickets in eight matches by Nathan Lyon did not do justice to their skills.
