Zara Dar, a YouTuber who once advocated for women’s inclusion in the fields of science and technology has decided to leave her PhD studies and join OnlyFans, a platform known for adult content.
OnlyFans gained popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown with many well-known models and actresses creating accounts to share semi-nude and explicit content for financial gain.
Recently, Zara Dar posted a YouTube video titled “PhD Dropout to OnlyFans Model,” where she explained her decision saying, “Although it was a tough decision, the good thing is that I don’t regret it.”
She described this shift not only as a career change but also as a gamble with her future.
Joining OnlyFans and moving towards content creation, according to her, “feels like a gamble with my entire life.”
Zara Dar who has over 100,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel, previously posted videos on academic topics like machine learning and neural networks.
In the video, she shared that after reflecting on her future in academia, she ultimately decided to leave her PhD.
She said, “The people whose lifestyles I admired were actually tied to someone else’s vision. They spend their lives working for an institution, doing work they don’t enjoy, and never receive the recognition or rewards they deserve.”
She added, “Their work might bring wealth and fame to others, but they stay in the background.”
Zara Dar who holds a Master’s in Computer Science from the University of Texas, further explained, “These people are constantly worried about losing their jobs and living with limited income.”
She went on to say that she dreamt of a different, freer life, one not bound by the constraints of academia or corporate offices.
Zara clarified that by leaving the teaching or tech industry, she could focus on researching and learning topics she was truly passionate about.
She also highlighted the financial benefits of her decision, revealing that since becoming an OnlyFans model, she has earned one million dollars.
In the video, she shared that she started creating content for OnlyFans as a side project during her PhD, earning one million dollars in the process. This money helped her pay her mortgage and buy a car.
She added, “Thanks to this income, I stopped taking student loans and am now able to make regular investments. I’m even considering buying a house. These achievements are proof of the freedom I gained by choosing my own path.”
She noted, “Most professors in the U.S. only make one million dollars a year and spend more time writing grant proposals than doing actual research. This lifestyle does not align with my views.”
