There has been an important change for the students in Delhi, which has brought relief news for the economically weaker section (EWS). Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, approving the proposal of the state government, has decided to increase the annual income limit for students under the economically weaker section from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. After this, now those students, whose parents' annual income is up to Rs 5 lakh, will be able to get admission in the EWS category.
This decision was taken in a notification issued from Raj Niwas on Monday. This step was taken after the order of the Delhi High Court dated December 5, 2023. In which the Delhi government was directed to increase the income limit from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
The Delhi government had sent a proposal through the Chief Minister in late October, in which it was said to increase the income limit to only Rs 2.5 lakh. However, the Lieutenant Governor, while approving this proposal, advised the Chief Minister to increase this limit to at least Rs 5 lakh.
Court's intervention
After this, the High Court issued an order on November 13, saying that its earlier orders were not followed. After this order, the Delhi government was forced to revise the income limit again and on Monday this revised proposal was sent to the Lieutenant Governor for approval.
25% reservation in private schools and a separate admission list
According to this new decision, now reservation of 25 percent of seats for economically weaker sections (EWS), disadvantaged groups (DG) and Divyang children will be mandatory in private schools of Delhi. A separate admission list will be issued for these categories.
