While he was good at cricket in his younger days he found his true passion in acting. He was inspired by his maternal uncle a theatre artist and later joined the National School of Drama in Delhi in 1984. He made his acting debut with a small role in Mira Nairs Salaam Bombay!. The actors career spanned over 30 years and he became one of the finest actors in world cinema. Some of his standout roles include Haasil (2003) Maqbool (2004) Paan Singh Tomar (2012) and Hindi Medium (2017).
