The Chase's Christmas special had viewers on tenterhooks as the celebrity team stood to win a six-figure jackpot for charity.

Airing tonight (December 25), the festive edition of the popular quiz show featured host Bradley Walsh alongside actor Tony Maudsley, Olympian Bryony Page, actress Kerry Godliman and TV star Alexander Armstrong.

The quartet impressively accumulated £116,000 and all secured their spots in the final chase, where they faced off against Chaser Jenny Ryan, also known as The Vixen. With a 23-question advantage, host Bradley described the situation as 'tight'.

Bradley set the scene with "Some target that," while Jenny praised the team: "Sensational work, a great team performance. I mean, I knew I was up against it but you really pulled together when it counted there."

Despite Jenny's streak of 13 correct answers, tension peaked when she stumbled on a question about the first Prime Minister to serve under King Charles, incorrectly guessing 'Rishi Sunak', reports .

This error gave the celebs a chance to push her back, seizing the opportunity with the correct answer, Liz Truss, to rapturous studio applause. This marked a downturn for The Chaser, as the celebrity team edged closer to winning their sizeable prize fund.

Jenny faltered again on the next question, with the celebrities correctly answering, earning them applause from the Chaser. Jenny's performance continued to waver with two more incorrect answers, both of which the contestants knew, setting her further behind.

Ultimately, Jenny secured 20 correct answers, paving the way for a rare triumph for the group. The celebrities celebrated their victory with jubilant leaps and warm embraces, before announcing the charities that would benefit from their £116,000 prize money, divided equally among them.

Tony pledged his £29,000 portion to Zoe's Place, a hospice in Liverpool, while Bryony chose to support The Wingate Special Children's Trust. Kerry opted for Action for Children, and Alexander selected Newcastle's Lit and Phil library as his charity of choice.
