Elon Musk the CEO of Tesla and the world’s richest person has once again stirred the internet by confirming that his unconventional offer to rename Wikipedia as Dickipedia for a whopping $1 billion (approximately ₹8539 crore) is still on the table.
The story resurfaced when a user named Doge Designer who often interacts with Musk on the platform X (formerly Twitter) shared a post reminding followers of Musks earlier proposal. The post read “Elon Musk once offered Wikipedia $1 billion to change their name to ‘Dickipedia’.” Musk responded to the post confirming “The offer still stands.”
Elon Musk’s Offer To Wikipedia
In 2023 Musk openly criticized Wikipedia and its parent organization the Wikimedia Foundation questioning their fundraising practices. In a post on X he remarked “Have you ever wondered why the Wikimedia Foundation wants so much money? It certainly isn’t needed to operate Wikipedia. You can literally fit a copy of the entire text on your phone! So what’s the money for? Inquiring minds want to know …”
Following his critique Musk made his infamous offer: “I will give them a billion dollars if they change their name to ‘Dickipedia’” adding that it was “in the interests of accuracy.”
