Following the use of “lathi-charge” by Bihar Police against candidates for the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) who demonstrated on Wednesday, Manoj Jha, the leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), said on Thursday that the government has to take into account the demands of the students and put an end to such actions.
He described the student lathi-charge as a “unfortunate” episode and said that the administration was giving false information.
Jha stated in an interview with ANI, “This is regrettable. They have distorted the facts and are now presenting them. Although the paper was taken on time, there is evidence that the test was conducted 50–45 minutes late in some locations. Is this not unfair? Do you not think it is incorrect? You go and lathicharge them as though they are on the border when they are sitting quietly. They are not your adversaries. Will the administration tolerate demonstrations like the emergency if they begin today? Who is in charge of the government? Have the authorities there been taken over by the BJP? The government needs to take the students’ requests into account and put an end to these kinds of activities.
RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav said earlier today that this was improper and they shouldn’t have done it.
“Karna chahiye thi aisa nahi karna. They shouldn’t have done this, or galat baat hai. “It’s incorrect,” Lalu said.
On Wednesday, the candidates for the BPSC assembled to “gherao” the commission’s Patna headquarters, calling for the test to be canceled.
Authorities from the police department clarified, however, that they had only used “mild force” and denied that the demonstrators had been hurt.
Along with naming other social media accounts that were allegedly deceiving the pupils, officials also said that coaching professors were encouraging candidates to demonstrate.
“Since December 18, candidates have been demonstrating nonstop in Gardanibagh’s Dharna Sthal to call off the BPSC preliminary exam. Some professors are inciting these pupils, both directly and indirectly. Furthermore, a lot of social media accounts are deceptive and provocative against students, according to DSP Anu Kumari.
“A candidate damaged the Gardanibagh Hospital on December 23. Hundreds of BPSC candidates swarmed the BPSC building today, December 25. Public annoyance resulted from the creation of law and order concerns without authorization. No one was hurt when the government dispersed the crowd with little force,” she said.
The DSP said that further action is being taken in response to a formal complaint against the individuals who incited candidates that was submitted under the appropriate sections at the Gardanibagh police station.
Purnia’s independent MP, Pappu Yadav, attended the demonstration on Wednesday and called on opposition lawmakers and MLAs to back the students’ cause.
“We urge all opposition MPs and MLAs to join the protest,” Yadav told ANI. In Bihar, people should assemble outside the homes of the MPs and MLAs from the governing party. What about this is political? The only thing these students are demanding is a re-examination after so many days of demonstrating.”
Parmar Ravi Manubhai, the chairman of the BPSC, earlier on Tuesday denied that the 70th Integrated Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) 2024, which took place earlier this month, would be canceled.
Notably, YouTuber and teacher Faisal Khan, often referred to as Khan Sir, paid a visit to the hunger strike participants on Tuesday.
