If you too had a complaint that there is no recharge plan for incoming calls only or there is no recharge plan for those who need only calling, then there is big news for you. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Monday announced the 12th amendment to the Telecom Consumers Protection Regulations. Under this amendment, telecom operators of India will be required to provide specific recharge vouchers for a particular service i.e. there will be separate plans for data and separate plans for calling. Let us remind you that Amar Ujala had prominently raised this issue. In this regard, Amar Ujala had prominently talked to the telecom regulator, and telecom companies, after which assurance was received and now finally the demand has been accepted.
Recharge vouchers on new TRAI mandate.
Under the new rules of TRAI, telecom operators will have to launch special tariff vouchers (STVs) for voice and SMS services. This move will give consumers the option to pay for their essential services. According to TRAI, its 12th amendment will be especially beneficial for senior citizens and consumers living in rural areas.
This amendment increases the validity of STV and Combo Vouchers (CV) to 365 days, whereas earlier its validity was limited to only 90 days i.e. special plans will now come with a validity of one year instead of 90 days. This move will help consumers to choose long-term plans.
According to the notice, the government has now abolished the requirement of color-coding of vouchers and promoted online recharge. Apart from this, the denomination of top-up vouchers which were earlier limited to only Rs 10, now that limit has been removed. Now telecom operators can choose the denomination of the voucher as per their wish, although they will have to offer a top-up voucher of at least Rs 10.
