A confused situation arose in the Kanpur Municipal Corporation House on Tuesday. While usually leaders of opposition parties accuse the ruling party of corruption, a BJP councilor showed a mirror to his own party against corruption. BJP councilor Pawan Gupta from Ward No. 37, Ashok Nagar wore a saffron colored T-shirt on corruption in the Municipal Corporation, on which it was written about corruption in the Municipal Corporation and illegal extortion from citizens.
It was written on the T-shirt of Councilor Pawan Gupta, 'Municipal Corporation, come to your senses' and below it it was also written, "The people of Kanpur should be freed from the illegal collection called transfer." It was also written on this T-shirt that fraud in the name of 1% tax should be stopped and corruption in the name of house tax should be curbed.
When Pawan Gupta reached the House wearing this T-shirt, it created a situation of confusion for BJP. Councilors of opposition parties said that when the state government and mayor belong to BJP, then why are BJP councilors raising their voice against corruption. This proves that there may be some truth in the opposition's allegations.
Mayor Pramila Pandey also expressed displeasure regarding this matter. He said that if the councilor had disagreement on any issue, he should have raised it through discussion in the House and not by adopting the method of public demonstration.
Opposition councilors said that this step of Councilor Pawan Gupta was an attempt to expose the corruption going on in the Municipal Corporation. This incident gave the message that there is a need for reform even within the ruling party. If the voice of reform starts rising within a party itself, then it can raise a big question for the government. The councilor showed through the T-shirt that there is dissatisfaction even within the ruling party regarding corruption in the Municipal Corporation.
