India vs. Australia 4th Test: Virat Kohli, India’s top batsman, was heavily criticized for his confrontation with Australia’s rookie Sam Konstas on the field on Thursday at the storied MCG.
The ICC fined Kohli 20% of his match fee when he seemed to have shoulder bumped Konsas on the first day of the Boxing Day Test.
The Australian media attacked the seasoned Indian cricket player, calling him a “clown and crybaby,” amid conflicting responses to his on-field behavior.
A furious argument broke out between the two players when Kohli pushed the 19-year-old Australian opener’s shoulder at the conclusion of the tenth over in the first innings.
The title “Clown Kohli” was used by the Australian newspaper “The West Australian” to criticize Kohli. The article’s headline said, “Indian sook slammed for pathetic bump in teen’s dream Test debut.”
For those who are unaware, the Tasmanian term “sook” denotes a coward, particularly a young person or a whiner.
Notably, Kohli received one penalty point for violating the ICC Code of Conduct at Level 1.
“Inappropriate physical contact with a player, player support personnel, umpire, match referee, or any other person (including a spectator during an international match)” is covered in Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
