Veteran actress Lalita Pawar was renowned for her iconic portrayal of the wicked mother-in-law in 1950s and 60s cinema. Her exceptional acting skills consistently captivated audiences. However many wont know that the actress started her career in films with many glamorous roles. In 1930 the actress played 17 characters in the film Chatur Sundari. Her look in the 1933 film Daivi Khazana was widely appreciated and she went onto to receive more glamorous roles in the industry. But her destiny changed after one slap incident in the 1966 film Jang-e-Azadi. During the shooting of a scene actor Bhagwan Dada slapped her so hard that it injured her left eye. Reportedly she underwent a wrong treatment following the incident which paralysed the right side of her body. Due to this the actress had to stay away from films for a long time. In 1952 Lalita made a comeback with a character in V Shantaram’s film Dahej. She was seen as a evil mother-in-law in this film. Then she did various such roles and created an image of a harsh mother-in-law with her phenomenal acting. Later in 1987 she bagged he role of Manthara in Ramanand Sagars Ramayana. She gained immense recognition for her work in the mythological drama. According to reports each episode of the show earned a whopping 40 lakh rupees that time. Talking about her personal life Lalita got married to producer Ganpatrao Pawar. Unfortunately the marriage did not last long as Lalitas husband had an extra-marital affair with her younger sister. This led to a divorce. Later she got married to a filmmaker named Raj Kumar Gupta. Together they have a son named Jai Pawar who is also a film producer. After her second wedding Lalita Pawar was diagnosed with mouth cancer. Reportedly the actress believed that her negative role portrayal was the reason behind her suffering. Unfortunately Lalita Pawar passed away in 1998 leaving an undeniable impact of her tremendous work on Hindi cinema.
