New Delhi: The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is nearing its end and attention is now turning to the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. As a result Shreyas Iyer is set to re-enter the India squad radar. After the IND vs AUS Tests India will face England in T20I and ODI series followed by the prestigious Champions Trophy. Since being snubbed for a BCCI Central Contract Shreyas Iyer has not been a regular member of the Indian team. However after Gautam Gambhirs appointment as head coach Iyer made his return in the ODI series against Sri Lanka in August. India narrowly missed out on winning the 2023 ODI World Cup losing to Australia in the final. Shreyas Iyer played a crucial role in that campaign making him a strong contender for the Indian squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy. As a reliable batter Iyer is known for playing vital knocks and anchoring innings for his team. While his selection is not guaranteed he remains a strong contender for India’s middle order in the upcoming Champions Trophy. India is expected to announce the squads for both the IND vs ENG series and the ICC Champions Trophy simultaneously. Iyer is likely to feature in both with the ODI series against England providing him crucial game time just ahead of the Champions Trophy. Shreyas Iyer has played 62 One Day Internationals (ODIs) so far scoring a total of 2421 runs. He boasts an impressive batting average of 47.47 with a highest score of 128*. Iyer has scored 5 centuries and 18 half-centuries in ODIs. His strike rate stands at 101.21 with 2392 balls faced contributing consistently to India’s middle-order. His contributions also include 62 boundaries and 24 sixes further highlighting his aggressive and impactful batting style.
