Jerusalem: After learning about terrorist infrastructure and operatives carrying out terrorist operations in the region, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) began a military action Friday in the vicinity of Gaza‘s Kamal Adwan Hospital.
According to the IDF, its forces are conducting targeted operations in the region while minimizing damage to patients, medical staff, and uninvolved civilians.
“While maintaining ongoing communication with hospital officials, the IDF and @cogatonline continue to make extensive efforts to enable patients to continue receiving care in other hospitals by facilitating the evacuation of patients from the Kamal Adwan Hospital, the ongoing transfer of supplies, food, and fuel to the area, and the restoration of operations of hospitals in the area,” according to a post on X.
In order to transport patients, Israel’s Unit for the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories: Judea and Samaria and towards the Gaza Strip (COGAT) has announced that it is working with foreign organizations and local health authorities.
In addition to being a key information source for the Palestinian sector, COGAT is in charge of coordination and contact with the Palestinian Authority. According to the Government of Israel’s official website, the unit is accountable to the Major General of COGAT, a member of the IDF’s General Staff, and Israel’s Minister of Defense.
The Kamal Adwan Hospital “provides a Hamas terrorist stronghold in northern Gaza, from which terrorists have been operating throughout the war,” according to COGAT’s other allegations.
The hospital has once again “become a key stronghold for terrorist organizations and continues to be used as a hideout for terrorist operatives,” according to COGAT, which cited earlier IDF and ISA operations in the region in October 2024.
According to COGAT, the targeted actions in the region were being conducted with the least amount of damage to patients, medical staff, and uninvolved civilians. It said that “Hamas systematically violates international law by abusing civilian infrastructure and the Gazan population as shields for its terrorist activities.”
“The IDF will continue to act in accordance with international law regarding medical facilities, including those where Hamas has chosen to embed its military infrastructure and conduct terrorist activities in blatant violation of international law,” it said.
The military actions take place one day after the Israeli Air Force attacked Houthi military targets in Yemen’s interior and on the country’s west coast. The Houthi military infrastructure that was used for their military operations was the target of the strikes. Along with the ports of Al-Hudaydah, Salif, and Ras Kanatib on the western coast, the targets also included the Sana’a International Airport and the Hezyaz and Ras Kanatib power plants.
