With tremendous excitement, the Assam Book Fair 2024 has begun at the Assam Veterinary College field, Khanapara in Guwahati.

The Assam Publication Board and the All Assam Publishers and Booksellers Association have partnered to arrange the annual book expo, which will run until January 7.

Prominent author Hindol Sengupta and Surinder Kumar Ghai, president of the Federation of Publishers and Booksellers Associations in India, were present when Assam Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu opened the book fair on December 27, according to Pramod Kalita, Secretary of the Assam Publication Board, who spoke to the media.

“Until January 7, this book fair will continue. There are 350 exhibitors at this book market, with 118 publishers and merchants in total. This book exhibition has attracted 15 publishers from Kolkata, West Bengal, 16 publishers from Delhi, and one each from Haryana and Hyderabad, according to Pramod Kalita.

He said that while Bangladeshi publishers had also taken part the previous year, we didn’t get in touch with them this time around because of the country’s present circumstances.

“The publishers of Bangladesh had communicated with us and they don’t want to participate this time due to the current situation in the country and we also have not shown our interest in inviting them,” said Pramod Kalita.

Almost 135 publishers and booksellers took part in the Assam Book Fair at the Assam Engineering Institute (AEI) field at Chamdmari, Guwahati, last year. A large number of Bangladeshi publishers attended the book show as well.

The Assam Book Fair was arranged in collaboration with the Publication Board of Assam and the All Assam Publishers and Book Sellers Association, according to Pramod Kalita, Secretary of the Publication Board of Assam, who spoke to ANI.

“This book expo has attracted 135 publishers and retailers from Assam and other regions of the nation. We’re hoping for another good book fair this year. Here, we are making every possible arrangement.

This book fair will include several well-known authors and artists from throughout the globe. Pramod Kalita said, “We have organized numerous programs for the students.”
