Shrish Chandra, Sambhal’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), said on Saturday that 50 persons had been taken into custody in relation to the violence that occurred on November 24 in the Sambhal district near the Jama Masjid area.
The ASP told media that one of the people sought in the case has been taken into custody from Batla House in Delhi.
“Fifty persons have been taken into custody thus far in connection with the violence in Sambhal. A wanted individual called Adnan was apprehended from Batla House in Delhi and sent to prison after being recognized via CCTV. “The incident involved the individual and his companions,” he said.
According to the ASP, information regarding their origins is being collected, and those who provided them with sanctuary will also face consequences.
Asaduddin Owaisi, the chief of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), made fun of the building of a police outpost next to Sambhal’s Jama Masjid earlier today, claiming that the Uttar Pradesh government only has funds for police posts and alcohol establishments.
“In Sambhal, a police station is being constructed in front of Jama Masjid. No matter where you travel in the nation, the government does not establish hospitals or schools. In a post on X, Owaisi said, “If anything is built, it’s a liquor bar and a police post.”
With the Rapid Action Force (RAF) in place to provide security, work has started on a new police station in Sambhal next to Jama Masjid. This move, which attempts to bolster security and stop any unrest, follows previous violence in the region that claimed lives.
Authorities increased security after the Sambhal incident sparked worries about public safety. To find the fugitive suspects, local police units are coordinating with other law enforcement organizations.
Four people were killed and several more were injured when the violence in Sambhal broke out on November 24 during an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) inspection of a mosque from the Mughal Empire.
