Bihar: Sister-in-law got a bike in dowry, brother-in-law went out of his control… strangled his wife.

A case of murder of a woman for dowry has come to light in West Champaran district of Bihar. This incident took place in Lakshmipur Patilar village of Chautarwa police station area. The deceased has been identified as 30 year old Godavari Devi. Husband Jaylal Das has been accused of murdering the woman. The deceased's maternal family has accused her in-laws of murdering her for dowry.

The deceased's father Prem Das has claimed that his in-laws were harassing his daughter for a long time due to not getting a bike as dowry. Prem Das said that recently he had married his second daughter. He had given a bike in this marriage. Because of this, Godavari's in-laws became angry. He also asked for a bike. After this, pressure was put on Godavari to give her the bike, due to which she started becoming mentally disturbed.

Godavari was married to Jayalal Das, a resident of Lakshmipur, in 2014. Prem Das says that Godavari's husband and in-laws used to harass her daily for the demand of a bike. On Friday, Prem Das received information that his daughter had died, but in the evening his elder son called and gave more information about the incident.

When the family members visited Godavari's house along with Chautarwa police station, the in-laws had absconded. Godavari's body was found lying on the ground inside the house. Godavari has two small children, a five-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter. She was the fourth among seven sisters and two brothers.

Confirming the incident, Chautarwa police station chief said that the body has been taken into custody and sent to Bagaha sub-divisional hospital for post-mortem. The matter can be revealed after the post mortem report comes. He also said that till now no application has been received from the relatives of the deceased. Police have said that as soon as the complaint is received, immediate action will be taken against the culprits.
