24 hours clean tap water for Delhiites
News Update December 29, 2024 06:24 AM

Now clean tap water has started being available in Delhi and that too 24 hours. Aam Aadmi Party's national convenor Arvind Kejriwal himself started it from Rajendra Nagar. Drinking water directly from a tap outside a house in Rajendra Nagar, Kejriwal said, “I promise that after the formation of the government in 2025, 24-hour clean water will be supplied in the entire Delhi in the next 5 years.” Its complete plan has been prepared. Two and a half thousand tube wells will also be installed to extract 1400 MGD water for Delhi. Booster pumping station has started functioning in this area of Rajendra Nagar. Similar booster pumping stations will be installed in other areas also and Delhiites will start getting clean tap water 24 hours.

Changed fortunes of 500 families, abstained from RO, saved money

Seema Srivastava, living in Rajendra Nagar, is now very happy with getting clean water 24 hours. This happiness also belongs to those 500 families of Rajendra Nagar whose clean water has started coming to their homes 24 hours a day. Seema says that in the first 24 hours, water came in the tap only twice for one hour each and that too was not fit for drinking. Because of this he had to install RO for drinking water. She was troubled by the RO's servicing and frequent malfunctions. They had to spend money and now they are free from this. About four thousand rupees had to be spent on RO for annual maintenance and troubleshooting, which will not happen now.

Stop buying water for Rs 80 a gallon

Seema also says that due to shortage of water, she had to buy water and use it. One had to pay Rs 80 for one gallon of water. This money which is spent every day is now being saved. Ram Prasad, who lives in the same area, says that earlier many times muddy water used to come but now absolutely clear water is coming. It is drinkable straight from the tap. During this, he told that foreign technology has been used to prevent water leakage and it has been ensured that water reaches every floor. According to Ram Prasad, when Kejriwal came, he himself took stock of it and even drank water from the tap of a house.

Claim of 'water revolution' in Delhi

It is not that water does not come from taps in Delhi, but it is not fit for drinking directly. There is a lot of ammonia in these. In such a situation, Kejriwal has promised the people that clean drinking water will be provided to entire Delhi in the next 5 years. Delhi CM Atishi wrote on social media, “Water revolution has started in Delhi! After 24×7 electricity, now the promise of 24×7 water is also being fulfilled. Under the guidance of @ArvindKejriwal ji, 24 hours clean water scheme started in DDA flats of Pandav Nagar. Under this, now there will be 24×7 supply of clean and fresh water to the houses here. Here Kejriwal himself went to the houses and drank tap water, and proved that whatever he promises, he fulfills it. He has a blueprint to implement this scheme in entire Delhi. The day is not far when every Delhiite will get clean water 24×7.”

Where does Delhi get water from?

Delhi gets Ganga water from UP, Yamuna water from Haryana and Bhakra Nangal water from Punjab. According to the Economic Survey 2023 of Delhi Government, 389 million gallons of water is available from Yamuna River, 253 million gallons from Ganga River and 221 million gallons of water is available from Ravi-Vyas River through Bhakra-Nangal Project. Apart from this, 9 crore gallons of water is available from wells, tube wells and underground water, that is, a total of 95.3 crore gallons of water quenches Delhi's thirst every day. This figure will increase to 969 million gallons in 2024.

Kejriwal claimed to have a roadmap

The situation has changed a lot in Delhi in the last 10 years. Before the Aam Aadmi Party government came to power, 50-60 percent of water was supplied through tankers and the tanker mafia was dominant. But, now 97 percent of the people of Delhi get water through pipeline, although it comes at fixed time of the day. People face water shortage from May to July. Kejriwal has prepared a big roadmap in this regard.

Kejriwal says that water comes out as soon as a pit is dug in the area across the Yamuna, but it is dirty and salty, for the cleaning of which two plants are being set up. After this, clean water will be available in this area. About two and a half thousand tube wells are required in entire Delhi through which 200 MGD extra water will be brought from across Yamuna. We will clean it in the plant and make it potable and deliver it to every house in Delhi through tap 24 hours a day. He also says that “Kejriwal does whatever he says. I don't talk in the air. “Does not give election slogans.”
