With India wrapping up their innings trailing by 105 runs, they needed some wickets with the new ball to have any chance of winning the game. Jasprit Bumrah did get rid of Sam Konstas in the seventh over but was not able to do much more than that. With the scoreboard reading 23/1 after ten overs, Rohit threw the ball to Siraj, who had a miserable first innings conceding 122 for none.
The India seamer came in with a chip on his shoulder and troubled Khawaja from ball one. The Aussie opener looked to be struggling from the get-go and his laboured innings came to an end in the 19th over when he was bowled by the Indian. What stood out though was Siraj’s celebration as he raised his finger to his lips in a show of defiance. Cricket.com.au put out a video showing Smith doing the same to him when he came out to replace the Aussie opener.
The crowd did not look too pleased with this as chants of “DSP…DSP” were heard all around the MCG. The Twitterati were not to be denied as they too had their say on the altercation.
