Delhi Delhi. It looks like WhatsApp is testing a document scanner for its iPhone app. Recently seen in beta for iOS, Document Scanner will allow users to scan documents without leaving the app. The upcoming feature could enhance WhatsApp's document-sharing capabilities as it looks to become more than just a chatting app. According to WABetaInfo, the iOS 24.25.89 update for WhatsApp adds a new “Scan Document” tool to the document-sharing menu. Tapping the tool immediately opens the iPhone's camera and allows you to scan a document – similar to how document scanning works in the iPhone's Files or Notes apps or apps like Google Drive. The report says the process is “simple”, involving simple steps: Capture the document and preview the scan on screen. The tool allows margin adjustment and document scan style for customization. Once the changes are made, users can tap the Send button to send the scanned copy to the chat. “By adding this feature to WhatsApp, users can meet their document-sharing needs without having to toggle between apps or rely on external tools,” the report said. It says that one of the benefits of this tool is clear, legible and “professionally formatted” documents, which will make them more useful than regular photos of documents.
Although the feature is available as part of a recent stable update of WhatsApp for iOS, it is currently being rolled out to select users. The report mentions that the feature was included in the official changelog of WhatsApp for version 24.25.80 on the App Store, but it was removed in the changelog of subsequent updates. This means that WhatsApp has not completed testing this feature. Also, some users have noticed the new document scanner in the latest version of WhatsApp for their iPhone devices. The report said that this facility will be opened to more people in the coming weeks.
