Saheefa Jabbar, the famous Pakistani actress known for her candid opinions, recently made a bold statement about food in Lahore and Karachi. During her appearance on a podcast, she shared her thoughts on various topics including her personal life and food preferences.

When asked to compare the food in Karachi and Lahore, Saheefa expressed her strong preference for Karachi’s cuisine. She particularly praised Karachi’s famous dishes like nihari and payas (a type of stew). She stated, “The food in Karachi is much better than Lahore. Nihari and payas in Karachi are exceptional while Lahore’s food is very bad.”

The host mentioned Lahore’s famous Bait Karahi, to which Saheefa responded, “That’s the only good thing, but I don’t like it either.” The host added that when he tried the Bait Karahi, it smelled of butter, which Saheefa clarified by saying, “In Karachi, we say that it has a butter aroma, not a ‘hek’ (smell). Eating Bait Karahi in a tray is a different experience.”

Saheefa also discussed her family background mentioning that her husband is from Lahore while her father spent his life in Karachi and was Urdu-speaking. She explained that her husband’s relatives are from Karachi and are also Urdu-speaking while her mother’s side speaks Punjabi and Seraiki. Saheefa added that although she can understand both Punjabi and Seraiki, she cannot speak them fluently.

Her comments have sparked a debate with many Karachi food lovers agreeing with her while some Lahore residents have expressed their own views in defense of their city’s cuisine.
