Liverpool city centre streets shut down with 'huge police presence' in area

Police have cordoned off multiple streets in Liverpool city centre following an incident this evening.

A cordon is in place outside the Metquarter on Whitechapel this evening and a large police presence is in place, reported the .

A section of Button Street towards the Cavern Quarter is also sealed off, along with part of Williamson Street. A cordon is also in place on Leigh Street.

The force incident manager for Merseyside Police confirmed officers were called to the scene at around 6.40pm on Monday, December 30, following reports a "male had been assaulted".
