Shalmali Kholgade is known for her bold yet sweet voice that leaves everyone mesmerized. Fans look forward to her songs for the way she connects with the listeners. As much as we love her singing, do you know that playback singing isn’t enough for Shalmali?

Here is what the ‘Naach Meri Jaan’ singer had to say.

recently interacted with an entertainment portal where she talked about her career as a playback singer. But she also shared that she thinks that playback singing is not enough for her. Sharing her thoughts on it, Shalmali Kholgade said, “I have never looked at myself as a singer but as a musician who makes her own music, can write her lyrics, arrange a song, sit and produce a record. I’m proud that I am a playback singer, but it is not enough for me. When people ask me if I like the stage or studio, I say stage without thinking. I took the leap during the lockdown. I wanted to write my own music since the day I signed in 2011. When I started putting out my music during the lockdown, I realised it gave me joy, pure fulfillment. It gave me the confidence that I had started losing in my otherwise flourishing life for an outsider. When I started writing, I was like nobody can do this; this is my expression, these are my life experiences, my understanding of music of so many years – this is mine. I have no understanding because what I like is very different. After I recorded Besharmi Ki Height and Shanivaar Raati , Wajid bhai (of Sajid-Wajid duo) asked me dono mein kaun sa hit hoga? I said Shanivaar Raati, but Besharmi became a bigger hit. Mujhe yeh samajh nahi aata , (I believe) gaana gao aur ghar jao. I had no idea that Balam Pichkari would be with Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor . I am not the kind of person who asks too many questions.”
