As compared to last year 2024 was not that great in terms of box office business. As per trade analysts and experts Bollywood is approximately 20 to 30% behind in terms of net box office collections in the domestic market as compared to 2023. Well this year several films with moderate budget like Crew Munjya Shaitaan did profitable business at the box office. Theres another film that has overtaken SS Rajamoulis Baahubali 2: The Conclusion to become the highest-grossing film- NOT in India but in China. Yes we are talking about none other than Vijay Sethupathis Maharaja. Made in a budget of Rs 20 crore the film is directed by Nithilan Saminathan starring Vijay Sethupathi and Anurag Kashyap in lead roles. The film was released in China on November 29 and since then it has set the box office on fire internationally. Maharaja received rave reviews from audience and critics hence earned more as compared to its Indian collection.     As per the box office tracking portral Sacnilk Maharaja has grossed Rs 85.57 crore and become the 10th biggest hit in China. Baahubali 2 has grossed Rs 80.50 crore and was the highest-grossing South Indian release in China before Maharaja. The list also includes Aamir Khans Dangal with Rs 1300 gross collection. Wells Vijay Sethupathi starrer able to shatter the record of Baahubali 2 but still couldnt match or beat Dangal s unbeatable earnings at Chinas box office collection. Talking about its worldwide earnings Maharaja earned Rs 194 crore gross at the box office and is now the fourth highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2024. Apart from Sethupathi and Kashyap the suspense actioner also features Mamta Mohandas Natarajan Subramaniam Abhirami Gopikumar Divyabharathi Singampuli Aruldoss Munishkanth Sachana Namidass Manikandan and Bharathiraja in pivotal roles. Produced by Jagadish Palanisamy and Sudhan Sundaram the film was released in Indian theatres on June 14 2024. It is currently streaming on the popular OTT platform Netflix in original Tamil language along with dubbed versions in Telugu Hindi Malayalam and Kannada languages.
