Pakistan's anti-terrorism court has sentenced former Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan to 34 years in prison. He has been sentenced for threatening security agencies. In fact, after the protest held in July 2024, cases were registered against Khalid Khurshid Khan under sections of treason and terrorism. Khalid Khurshid was accused of giving a threatening speech.
According to its verdict by the Anti-Terrorism Court No. 1 of Gilgit-Baltistan, the aggrieved party had threatened the Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan, police personnel, and intelligence agencies during a protest in Gilgit on July 26, 2024. It was alleged that the former Chief Minister allegedly threatened everyone and said that if he comes to power again, he will not spare anyone.
After the case was registered against the former Chief Minister, a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was formed. After the investigation, the JIT found Khan Khurshid guilty. At present, he is still absconding. The court said in its verdict that during the proceedings of the case, the prosecution has proved all the charges against the accused. He has been sentenced to 34 years and fined under various sections. Apart from the long sentence, the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 6 lakh on the former Chief Minister. The court ordered the police to arrest Khurshid Khan and implement his sentence.
Khurshid Khan is a leader of former Pakistan PM Imran Khan's party. Khurshid Khan, who belongs to the PTI party, has been absconding for a long time. Before him, former Prime Minister Imran Khan is also serving a jail sentence. Cases of treason and terrorism were registered against former CM Khurshid Khan by the Shahbaz government.
