Would it be oversimplified to suggest that the Khan troika’s lack of a single release in 2024 contributed to the year’s poor box office performance? Maybe. However, any lover of Hindi cinema would tell you that the stars were much missed. This year, when at least two Khans will return on the big screen, is why everyone is watching.

salman aamir d 1

Tiger 3 (2023) was the last time Salman had a release. However, a lot transpired with the actor in 2024, starting with a series of shootings outside his Bandra home in April and criminal Lawrence Bishnoi threatening to kill him. We so anxiously anticipate his comeback to celluloid with Sikandar. What’s great is that he will do what he does best—be a heroic figure and get revenge—in his first film with director AR Murugadoss. Anticipate intense drama, action, a new on-screen partnership with Rashmika Mandanna, and a storyline that demands you to suspend your disbelief. And, of course, a big opener. After all, his followers will flock to celebrate Eidi.

Aamir Khan will be their summer date, but the audience’s Eid is devoted to Salman. The actor has not seen in front of the camera for four years after the lackluster reception to his passion project, Laal Singh Chaddha (2021). He promises to share another touching tale with Sitaare Zameen Par this time. The performer—

The producer views it as Taare Zameen Par’s spiritual heir (2007). Aamir said that the new movie, which is a remake of the Spanish sports comedy Campeones (2018), was “way ahead” of its predecessor and that it flipped the narrative by demonstrating how far individuals can go in spite of their obstacles. Genelia Deshmukh and Darsheel Safary are also featured in this film, which was directed by RS Prasanna of Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017) fame. Will it produce the enchantment at the box office that Laal Singh Chaddha was unable to? Who knows? However, we might hope that when 2025 dawns, people will enjoy movies more for their stories than for their box office performance.

It’s possible that director S Shankar’s Indian 2 project didn’t work out last year. However, in Game Changer, the director—who is renowned for his visual spectacles—combines politics with action once again. In the Telugu action thriller, which is slated for release on January 10, Ram Charan portrays an IAS officer who is committed to fighting corruption and advancing free elections.

Ajay Devgn has two sequels planned for this year, since franchise movies are expected to be a big hit in 2024. Raid 2, directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, will be released on May 1st, which is Maharashtra Day. Devgn plays IRS officer Amay Patnaik again in the movie, as he leads another risky income tax raid. Rajat Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor, and Riteish Deshmukh are among the cast members. The actor also reunites with his Shaitaan (2024) co-star R Madhavan in the romantic comedy De De Pyaar De 2.

A new Housefull installment has been released for the new year. Five years after the last installment, Housefull 5, starring Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh, is released. The film directed by Tarun Mansukhani is expected to feature a wafer-thin narrative, an ensemble cast, and a joke a minute, much like the series. This one is mostly set on a luxury cruise and also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Fardeen Khan, Jacqueliene Fernandez, and Nargis Fakhri.

In his third biopic, Vicky Kaushal plays Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, after Sardar Udham (2021) and Sam Bahadur (2023). Laxman Utekar’s historical play, which is based on Shivaji Sawant’s book Chhava, portrays Sambhaji Maharaj as a valiant warrior who preserved the Maratha tradition throughout his rule in the 17th century. Sambhaji’s wife, Yesubai Bhonsale, is portrayed by Rashmika Mandanna.

With four upcoming films this year, you won’t be missing the superstar Akshay Kumar. Based on Indian politician and lawyer C Sankaran Nair, this Karan Johar film tells the story of how the lawyer pushed the British Empire to recognize the Jallianwala Bagh atrocity. It is an adaption of the novel The Case that Shook the Empire, and it was directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and starred Ananya Panday. Additionally, Kumar will appear in Skyforce, Jolly LLB 3, and the Republic Day release.

For the first time, a female spy is the main character in a YRF espionage movie. Alia Bhatt joins Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, and Katrina Kaif in the on-screen espionage world. Sharvari, who made waves with Munjya last year, is joining Bhatt in Shiv Rawail’s directing endeavor. Alpha will be released around Christmas 2025.

In the Independence Day release, War 2, two of the most well-liked celebrities of the present generation, Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, will square off. In the 2019 film War, Roshan reprises his role as Kabir, the R&AW agent who turned rogue. There are fresh faces in front of and behind the camera in this espionage thriller sequel. Director Ayan Mukerji takes over from Siddharth Anand as RRR (2022) star Jr. NTR makes his much awaited Bollywood debut. Kiara Advani and a possible crossover with Salman Khan’s Tiger and Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan have been added to the mix.

We will see the reunion of two legends in June. For Thug Life, superstar Kamal Haasan and filmmaker Mani Ratnam have reunited almost 35 years after their first collaboration in Nayakan (1987). Trisha Krishnan, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Pankaj Tripathi, Sanya Malhotra, Ali Fazal, and Rohit Saraf are among the cast members of the Tamil gangster action drama from all around India. The film’s soundtrack was contributed by Oscar winner AR Rahman, who wrote the music for Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 1 and 2.

Shahid Kapoor is in the mood for chaos after his romantic role in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya last year. In the January release, Deva, he plays a tough officer. This action thriller marks Malayalam filmmaker Rosshan Andrews’ debut in Hindi cinema and promises intense action scenes with a growing corpse count.

Varun Dhawan is making a comeback to the romance genre this year. The actor will release Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari in April, which also stars Rohit Saraf, Janhvi Kapoor, and Sanya Malhotra. Varun and Shashank Khaitan, the director of the Dulhania franchise, have reunited. Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, his fourth project with director-father David Dhawan, will be his follow-up.

Lahore 1947 is an example of both the old and the modern. The historical drama is the main man’s first marriage to producer Aamir Khan, but it also represents the fourth partnership between actor Sunny Deol and director Rajkumar Santoshi. The film, which also stars Preity Zinta, examines the psychological and physical experiences of those enmeshed in the chaos of the Partition.
