Cybercrime is constantly increasing. In such a situation, a lot of awareness is spread about it. Despite this, many people continue to fall prey to these fake schemes. One of the most common scams involves part-time jobs, but this time a man lost a lot of money while trying to apply for a loan, not a job scam. Surprisingly, this incident happened through the Flipkart app. Let's know what is the whole matter.

The incident happened with a postmaster.

This incident happened with a postmaster in Ludhiana. Where he lost Rs 87,000 after falling prey to cyber fraud related to loans. The victim Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Kale village in the Sudhar area, had applied for a loan of Rs 2 lakh through the Flipkart app. A few days after applying, on December 4, he received a call from a person posing as a representative of the app, claiming that his loan had been approved. However, the caller told him that the loan could not be given due to incomplete KYC (Know Your Customer) verification.

Token payment of Rs 5 became the reason.

To fix this, Sarabjit was asked to click on a link and fill out an online KYC form. Believing it to be a legitimate process, he followed the instructions. During this, he was asked to make a token payment of Rs 5 to finalize the verification. But instead of Rs 5, a hefty amount of Rs 86,998 was deducted from his bank account. Shocked by the sudden deduction, Sarabjit immediately contacted the person, but the person disconnected the call and switched off the phone.

Sarabjit then reached Jagraon Police Station, and the case was referred to the Cyber Crime Department for further investigation. According to ASI Jagroop Singh, an FIR has been registered under Section 318(4) for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property under BNS, as well as Section 66(D) of the Information Technology (IT) Act. Officers are now working to trace the bank accounts to which the stolen money was transferred.

Keep these things in mind.

In such a situation, to avoid falling prey to such fraud, it is important to be cautious while dealing with unknown callers or suspicious links. Especially in financial matters, one should always verify the authenticity of calls or messages. Especially when asked to complete KYC or make any payment. People are advised to avoid clicking on unwanted links and never share personal details or banking information without cross-checking the source. Using official banking apps and authorized websites is the safest way to handle transactions. It is always better to apply for loans through authorized banks and not through third-party apps like Flipkart.
