The recently leaked images and patent do provide us with exciting details about the Nintendo Switch 2, the NVIDIA hardware, AI upscaling and ray tracing capabilities,

Previous Anticipations

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be much more hardware-intensive than the previous generation. It will be better in terms of processing and graphics and have more battery life. Other rumors about the new console say that it supports 4K in docked mode and has more advanced AI features, which allows it to load even faster with a custom NVIDIA chip. But whatever the innovation, all gamers will, no doubt experience their gaming in both Handheld and docked form on their television.

A new Nintendo console launch has many avid gamers asking how the new console will play their old games. Switch 2 is official, and Nintendo Switch games will have complete backward compatibility. This means players won’t have to rebuy their existing games. All titles for the original Switch will be perfectly compatible with the new console.

Recent Leaks

The leaked images allegedly show a motherboard featuring SK Hynix LPDDR5 48Gbit memory. This is considered as a significant upgrade over the current Switch. Furthermore, the console is also said to use NVIDIA’s Tegra 239 System-on-Chip (SoC), based on the Orin family, with eight cores and 2048 CUDA cores. The hardware shall provide advanced features like ray tracing and NVIDIA’s DLSS Ray Reconstruction. However, experts are in apprehension that the console might be equipped with 4k resolution and 30 frames per second when docked.

AI Upscaling Patent

A recent patent filed by Nintendo confirms the use of NVIDIA’s AI-powered DLSS upscaling. This in turn has increased the hype among the users. This feature, if equipped could enable the console to run games at higher resolution without requiring large storage space. the patent suggests that a game with native 4K textures might need a 60GB download, but a 1080p version could be stored on a smaller 32GB Switch cartridge. This technology would upscale the visuals to 4K in real-time, ensuring that games look great while keeping physical media affordable.

The increasing number of leaks suggests that we are not that far away from the official announcement. Some reports suggest that January 8, 2025, is when it will be officially released by Nintendo and the product will hit the shelves by March 28, 2025.
