Knee pain is a very common health issue that several people deal with. In winter season arthritis and knee pain tends to increase due to several reasons like loss of flexibility, reduced activity, intense cold weather may lower blood flow and changes in air pressure affects tissues etc. With the rite of passage, we age and so do our body parts. And age may entail health issues like loss of muscles and strength. This is known as sarcopenia where there is natural loss and degeneration of skeletal muscles where age is a major contributing factor. This also increases risk of falls and fracture subsequently.
Diet plays a pivotal role in maintaining a healthy life. Recently a video surfaced the internet where an elderly woman opened up about mitigating her pain with help of dietary changes.
A doctor, Dr Sayajirao Gaikwad, shared a video on his X (formerly Twitter) account of an elderly woman who made dietary changes that aided her in easing her knee pain. Dr. Gaikwad mentioned that one major dietary change is adding more protein. “This is how I encourage elderly people to eat high protein foods. With just putting them on high protein foods we see change in quality of their life. Our elder deserve nutrient dense foods. Eggs, paneer, meat, legumes rich diet. Strictly lowering rice, stopping wheat helping her,” he wrote in his caption.

In the following thread he also mentioned how the woman was able to achieve it without undergoing knee replacement surgery. “Six months back she was unable to walk without support. She was advised for knee replacement surgery. She refused it. She is happily following diet and she is seeing such great improvement in her health. 75% knee pains are improved with just changing foods.”
Protein is an essential dietary component that helps in building muscles naturally. It also aids in repairing tissues, helps in strengthening bone, boosts metabolism for weight loss and is a good source of energy too.
