Subsidy On DAP: The central government has announced extra subsidy on DAP while giving relief to the farmers. Talking about the decision taken in the cabinet, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has said that the Modi government has approved a one-time special subsidy package of Rs 3850 crore for DAP.
With this decision of the Modi government, the price of DAP for farmers will remain the same. That is, farmers will get a 50 kg bag of DAP fertilizer for Rs 1350 only. The government will bear the additional cost. The Union Minister has said that due to instability in prices in the global market and geopolitical reasons, the global prices of DAP fertilizer continue to fluctuate.
Fertilizer subsidy more than doubled in 2014-2023
He further said that sea routes like the Red Sea are unsafe due to conflicts, forcing ships to use the Cape of Good Hope. Global market volatility can affect fertilizer prices in India. Despite problems like Covid and war since 2014, PM Modi has ensured that farmers do not have to bear the burden of market volatility.
The Union Minister said that the fertilizer subsidy in 2014-2023 was Rs 1.9 lakh crore, which is more than double compared to 2004-2014. He further said that under the PM Crop Insurance Scheme, 4 crore farmers were insured in 2023-24, out of which 55% are non-loanee farmers. It is the largest scheme in the country in terms of policies and the third largest scheme on the basis of total premium.
The government has said that this scheme is applicable in 23 states/union territories. 20 listed insurance companies are involved in this scheme. This scheme provides comprehensive protection to farmers from sowing to harvesting. Apart from this, it also covers natural disasters and adverse weather disasters.
