Glenn McGrath was surprised to see the grass cover on the pitch of the Sydney Cricket Ground for the fifth and final Test between India and Australia. The batting was difficult on Day 1, and the visiting team was bowled out for 185 runs in their first innings. Australia were 9/1 at the stumps, with Usman Khawaja falling to Jasprit Bumrah.
Earlier, Scott Boland’s four wickets didn’t allow the Indian batters to pose a threat. The batting unit once again crumbled by the pressure created by the Aussie pacers.
Justin Langer and Simon Katich, the two former Australian players, were taken aback by the track in Sydney. The two admitted that they hadn’t seen a pitch like that before in their lives. Meanwhile, McGrath also predicted Australia’s win in the contest.
“I played at Sydney Cricket Ground for 14 years but didn’t see so much grass cover here. It is been 18 years since I retired from cricket, but this is something I am seeing for the first time over here at SCG. The pitch is also hard down under and India did well to reach 185. I am looking forward to seeing what Jasprit Bumrah does on this track, and it is not going to be easy for the batters,” he said on Star Sports.
“I am backing Australia to win the Test match and lift the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a long time. But they will have to be careful from this Indian bowling attack as they have wicket-taking bowlers in the team, with Jasprit Bumrah leading from the front.
