7 things to know about the fourth edition of the Chennai Flower Show

Chennai is celebrating the fourth edition of the flower show which was inaugurated by Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday. The Chennai Flower Show is organised at Semmozhi Poonga, marking the start of an 18-day floral celebration. This event is inspired by the renowned Ooty Flower Show and is curated by the State Horticulture and Plantation Crops department.

One of the prime features of the show is a collection of 50 different flower species arranged in nearly three million flower pots. The floral displays are arranged into 20 intricate shapes, including designs of an elephant, peacock, train, turtle, boat, butterfly, heart, swan, and a dancing monkey, demonstrating remarkable creativity and craftsmanship.

Inauguration: The flower show was inaugurated by Chief Minister MK Stalin. He opened the fourth edition of the Chennai Flower Show on Thursday. It is an 18-day floral celebration.

Drawing inspiration from Ooty: The Chennai Flower Show is inspired by the iconic Ooty Flower Show. The event features a stunning array of 50 types of flowers arranged in three million flower pots, curated by the State Horticulture and Plantation Crops department.

Floral displays: The flowers are decorated into 20 intricate shapes, including designs of an elephant, peacock, train, turtle, boat, butterfly, heart, swan, and a dancing monkey, showcasing exceptional artistry.


Sourcing Flowers: Flowers for the exhibition have been sourced from Ooty, Yercaud, Kodaikanal, and Krishnagiri, ensuring a diverse and vibrant display of colors and species.

Extended Duration: Originally set to end on January 11, the show has been extended until January 19 given the awesome and overwhelming public demand. Comfortable seating arrangements have also been made for visitors to enjoy the exhibition.

Ticket Prices: The entry fee has increased, with tickets now priced at INR 200 for adults (12 years and above) and INR 100 for children (5-11 years). Additional charges apply for photography and videography.

Popularity: The flower show is a major attraction in Chennai, with last year’s edition drawing over 109,000 visitors. It has become a key cultural event, supporting horticulture, tourism, and local community engagement.
