This actress might have remained a B-grade heroine if not one defining moment when she made history as the first actress to rock and roll in a saree. At the time no leading actor was willing to accept her as co-star. Fortunately for Mumtaz Askari Dilip Kumar had no such reservations. During the casting for Ram Aur Shyam (1967) Dilip Kumar was first undecided to star Mumtaz in the film. However when the videos of her performances were shown the thespian shore sure agreed to take her in the film. Slowly and steadily Mumtaz cemented her presence with brilliant work in the industry. Most of the hit films include her pairing with Rajesh Khanna like Do Raaste Ram Aur Shyam Khilona Aap Ki Kasam Sachaa Jhutha Brahmachari Patthar Ke Sanam Suraj Loafer Dushmun and many more. There was a time when their pairing was enough to make cinema halls housefull. The breathtaking on-screen couple also became close friends off-screen. Moreover their fans wanted to see them together in real life however the two preferred to remain friends despite having such a mesmerising camaraderie.   At the peak of her career Mumtaz decided to get married and settle down. She tied the knot with a rich NRI businessman Mayur Madhvani. However there were reports that Khanna cried inconsolably after Mumtaz got married. Decades later in an interview with Pinkvilla the actress opened up whether reports about the yesteryear star crying after hearing about her marriage were true. She said People say so though I wasn’t here. Kaka was too proud a man to say it on my face. But people close to him told me that when I got married and left India Kaka said I have lost my right hand!” Apparently he missed me a lot because we clicked so well and made such a great pair. Following her marriage Mumtaz moved to Mombasa with her husband and later to London. She is blessed with two daughters Natasha and Tanya. Mumtaz did attempt a comeback in 1990 but it did not work out. She only returned to screen in 2010 in a breast cancer documentary having survived the disease herself.
