Nirupa Roy stands an one of the greatest actresses that the Indian cinema has ever produced. Throughout her remarkable career she took on numerous roles but it was her portrayal as a mother who left a lasting impression on audiences. Often regarded as Indian cinemas best on-screen mother some even mistook her for Amitabh Bachchans real mother due to their frequent collaborations. Nirupa Roy born as Kokila Kishorechandra Bulsara in Valsad Gujarat entered the film industry after she got married at 15 and moved to Bombay with her husband Kamal Roy. Her decision to pursue acting career was never approved by her father leading him to break relations with her. Despite her success in over 250 films this estrangement remained a lifelong sorrow for her. Roy was  titled as the Queen of Misery due to her excellence in playing complex emotional characters. Some of her notable films include Do Bigha Zameen Suhaag Muqaddar Ka Sikandar Kranti Mard Betaab Khoon Aur Pani Amar Akbar Anthony Maa Purab Aur Paschim and more. In a career spanning five glorious decades Roy worked with superstars like Dilip Kumar Amitabh Bachchan Dharmendra Vinod Khanna Shashi Kapoor and more. Moreover she earned the title of Goddess of the Indian screen due to her frequent portrayal of Hindu deities in films during the 1940s and 1950s. Her role of Goddess Parvati in the film Har Har Mahadev (1950) was particular influential in cementing this image. A tragedy stuck in Nirupa Roys life when her daughter-in-law Una Roy filed charges against her and accused her of dowry. Apart from that she also accused Roy and his husband of having black money. However after many investigations later the police couldnt grab any proof against the actress and the court declared her not guilty. Unfortunately On October 13 2004 the Indian cinema lost an undeniable talent. Nirupa Roy suffered a severe cardiac arrest and she passed away at the age of 73.
