New Delhi: On a challenging pitch Australia comfortably chased down the target with Beau Webster (39*) and Travis Head (34*) guiding the team over the line. India’s hopes were dented by the absence of Jasprit Bumrah whose unavailability was felt as the Indian attack struggled to break through on Day 3. This loss also saw India bow out of the World Test Championship final race. Australia’s victory marked the first time in a decade that they had claimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with their last win over India coming in the 2014-15 series. Since then India had dominated the contest winning four consecutive series including two tours to Australia. India’s early series advantage in Perth was quickly matched by Australia’s response in Adelaide where they claimed the pink-ball Test. The series was then drawn in Brisbane before Australia dominated the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne and sealed the win with a strong performance in Sydney’s Pink Test. Resuming Day 3 at 141/6 India collapsed swiftly losing their final four wickets for just 16 runs to be bowled out for 157 in their second innings. Pat Cummins and Scott Boland led the charge with Boland finishing with a six-wicket haul helping Australia seal the win. This defeat ends India’s streak of four consecutive series wins against Australia which included two triumphs on Australian soil.
