Weeks after Ratan Tata’s death, N Chandrasekaran reveals big plan for this Tata Group company, not TCS

N Chandrasekaran the chairman of Tata Sons recently spoke about Air India and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to transforming it into a world-class airline that delivers exceptional service and performance to its passengers. While attending a discussion at the Global Alumni Meet of NIT Trichy on Saturday Chandrasekaran stated My commitment is to take every effort to make Air India an absolute top-class airline in the world—in terms of hardware flight experience customer experience technology and in every way possible.Tata Group acquired Air India in 2022 for Rs 18000 crore marking a significant milestone in the airline’s history. Responding to a question from Managing Director of TVS Supply Chain Solutions Ravi Viswanathan Chandrasekaran said that the Tata Group wants to improve and transform Air India in every aspect whether its flight experience technology or customer service. On a lighter note he jokingly urged the audience to encourage aircraft makers Boeing and Airbus to speed up their deliveries. Notably Air India has placed a massive order for 470 planes—250 from Airbus and 220 from Boeing. The airline recently expanded its order book by adding 100 wide-body A350s and 90 narrow-body A320s. Telling the Tata Group’s take on the semiconductor industry the Tata Sons Chairman said that the group plans to have a semiconductor fabrication unit operational by next year. He also spoke about USD 18 billion in investments in the manufacturing assembly and testing of semiconductors. He highlighted the need for a persistent focused approach in the growing sector also mentioning the support needed by government policies investments and academic collaboration. “Building an ecosystem for the semiconductor industry is crucial and we expect thousands of companies to emerge in the next 18-24 months” Chandrasekaran stated.
