India vs. Australia 5th Test: Following India’s heartbreaking loss to Australia in the Test series, head coach Gautam Gambhir gave his thoughts on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s future.

Both Rohit and Kohli had a terrible batting trip to Australia, and India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in a decade with a 1-3 series loss.

Gambhir seems to have distanced himself from the criticism of older Indian batsmen who claim to still possess “passion” and “hunger.”

“I am unable to discuss any player’s future. In the post-match news conference after India’s six-wicket defeat to Australia in Sydney, he informed reporters, “It’s up to them as well.”

“All I can say is that they are difficult individuals who yet possess their drive and desire.

Hopefully, they will be able to go on and advance it. But in the end, they will always prepare for the best, as we are all aware.

In the five-match series, Kohli finished with only 190 runs at an average of 23.75 after scoring a historic century in the Perth Test, which India won.

Virat’s best score after the Perth Test was 36 in the next seven innings. Throughout the series, he was removed in a similar manner as Australia made fun of him by using the outside off stump trap.

Before opting out of the fifth Test in Sydney, skipper Rohit Sharma, who missed the Perth Test due to the birth of his second child, only scored 31 runs in three Test matches.

The leading scorer, despite three ducks, was Yashasvi Jaiswal (391 runs), who was followed by Rishabh Pant (255 runs), KL Rahul (276 runs), and youthful all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy (298 runs).

The future of Virat and Rohit in the longest format is questionable, and it seems that the BCCI selectors and team management may sit down with the two and have a thorough and definitive discussion.

India lost the pink ball Test in Adelaide by 10 wickets after their victory in Perth, but they were able to tie the third game in Brisbane. India lost out on their greatest opportunity in Melbourne before losing to Sydney once again.

In the fifth and final Test of the series, Australia successfully chased down the 162-run goal and finished the match in three days.
