IND vs. AUS 5th Test: It would be a vast understatement to say that Jasprit Bumrah, India’s standout bowler, was the greatest player in the five-match Test series. At one time in this series, it seemed like he was the only player playing against Australia after bowling his heart out. However, the Men in Blue’s 3-1 series loss against the hosts marked the end of his tenure.

In Australia, Bumrah had a fantastic run in this series, setting several records. In addition, he beat Bishan Singh Bedi’s record of taking the most wickets for the Men in Blue in a series and exceeded Kapil Dev’s record of getting the most wickets as an Indian bowler in Australia. He accomplished a double milestone in the third Test match at the Gabba in Brisbane, and his dream run started when he won the series opener in Perth.

The joy of Perth

After losing to New Zealand in a humiliating home Test series, the visitors didn’t start the series on a positive note. The fact that Bumrah was sent in as India’s stand-in captain while Rohit Sharma, their normal captain, was on paternity leave dealt them a severe blow. He led the side from the front and destroyed Australia’s batting order, despite the fact that they were skittled out for just 150 runs in the first innings.

Bumrah helped the squad knock out the hosts for only 104 runs in the first innings with figures of 5/40. While Bumrah claimed three more wickets and got the side over the finish line, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and star batsman Virat Kohli both struck hundreds to help India reach a massive mark of 534 runs. In addition to his bowling ability, he was being regarded as Rohit’s successor and was praised by both the supporters and the critics for his leadership abilities.

Australia vs. Bumrah

Rohit Sharma was once again appointed captain after winning the first game of the series, although Jasprit Bumrah remained the best bowler. Bumrah was outstanding with the ball and claimed four wickets under his kitty, but Australia won the second Test match in Adelaide.

He was in outstanding form at the MCG when he replicated his exploits after taking nine wickets in both innings in the third Test match. In the third Test match, he and Akash Deep both made important contributions with the bat, helping the side resist the follow-on.

An agonizing conclusion in Sydney

Rohit Sharma was ‘selected out’ of this crucial match, making Bumrah the stand-in captain for the fifth and final Test match in Sydney. Although he scored a tough knock of 22 runs in the first innings and assisted his side in reaching their goal of 185 runs, things didn’t work out well for him this time around as the squad had another batting collapse.

Many believed that Bumrah would replicate his exploits in Perth after he got two wickets in the first innings. However, he only bowled 10 overs after suffering a back ailment, and on the second day, he was seen hurrying to the hospital for medical tests.

On the third day, he did bat as the home team won the game by six wickets and secured the series.

But because of his outstanding individual accomplishment, he may still be proud. He was declared the Player of the Series after taking 32 wickets at an outstanding average of 13.06 throughout this series.
