Liverpool vs Manchester United is after a second meeting between Liverpool City Council's Safety Advisory Group.

A Liverpool statement issued shortly before midday UK time said: "Today’s fixture against Manchester United will go ahead as planned. Two safety meetings were held earlier to assess the weather and travel conditions. We thank everyone involved in helping us to get this game on today. If you’re travelling to Anfield then please take extra care. We look forward to seeing you there."

Heavy overnight snowfall in the North West of England had put the game in doubt, and an initial meeting between the Safety Advisory Group, which took place on Sunday morning, did not result in a final decision being taken.

The group agreed to reconvene a few hours later, with a view to taking a decision at around midday UK time, and that is exactly what happened, as Liverpool issued a statement at 11:57am confirming the game would go ahead as planned.

Attention can now turn to matters on the pitch as the Reds aim for a victory that will move them eight points clear of second-placed Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table.

The Gunners dropped were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton on Saturday night, and currently sit five points behind Arne Slot's men having played two game more than the league leader.
