Mumbai: A five-year-old girl suffered brutal injuries after being assaulted with a hot iron rod by a woman neighbour in Mumbai’s Govandi area. The horrifying episode took place on 2 January when the child’s parents had left her in the care of a neighbouring man while they were at work.
According to the police, the man handed over the child to another neighbour, the accused woman, who reportedly got enraged upon learning that the child had hidden her pet cat. In a fit of anger, the woman first struck the girl on the head with a hot iron rod and then burnt her leg.
The incident came to light after the first neighbour noticed the child’s injuries and lodged a police complaint. Officials confirmed that the accused had been living in the area for the past six years.
The woman was arrested and charged under Section 118(1) of the Bombay Nursing Homes Registration Act and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
