New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor referred to BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri’s “controversial” comments against Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as “petty” on Sunday, saying that political parties shouldn’t get involved in such matters.

Tharoor went on to say that regardless of one’s agreement with another, one should treat others with dignity.

“To be honest, I believe this to be trivial. These topics are not for us to discuss. To be really honest, we care about people respecting one another and not treating one another disrespectfully in politics. Even if we may not agree, it doesn’t imply that disrespect should be shown. Regardless of whether they agree with someone or not, I believe that people should treat each other with respect. “They shouldn’t be saying this about our side either, and we aren’t going around saying such things about BJP people,” Tharoor told the media report.

The ‘controversial’ comments made by BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri on Congresswoman Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have caused a rift.

In a video posted by AAP MP Sanjay Singh on X, Bidhuri said that if the BJP were to win power, all of Kalkaji’s roads would be made to resemble Priyanka Gandhi’s “cheeks.”

In the midst of Congress indignation, Bidhuri apologized on Sunday for his divisive comments on Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

In an interview with ANI, Bidhuri made it clear that his sentiments were in line with those of RJD leader Lalu Yadav. He also underlined that the Congress party had said nothing in response to similar statements made when he was Bihar’s chief minister.

“Such claims have been made before. I made that statement in light of Lalu Yadav’s remarks. Even when Lalu Yadav served as a minister in their government, Congress said nothing about it. The BJP politician stated, “I apologize for my remarks and take them back if they have offended anyone.”

At a gathering in Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav once made a noteworthy pledge. He promised to make the state’s roads as smooth as the cheeks of Hema Malini, a BJP MP and former star.

Congresswoman Supriya Shrinate blasted the BJP candidate harshly, calling the comment “shameful,” and charged the party with inciting anti-women sentiment.

Shrinate said on X that Bidhuri’s remarks against the Wayanad Congress Lok Sabha MP were not only dishonorable but also demonstrated his “disgusting” attitude toward women.

It is anticipated that Delhi’s assembly elections will take place in February 2025.
The Congress party, which ruled Delhi for 15 years in a row, has not won any seats in the last two assembly elections.

In the 2020 assembly elections, the BJP won eight seats while the AAP won 62 of the 70 seats.
