Bastar Journalist Murder Case: Main Accused Contractor Suresh Chandrakar Arrested From Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the murder case of Bastar journalist, Mukesh Chandrakahr, has arrested the key and absconding accused - Suresh Chandrakar from Hyderabad. Mukesh was murdered on January 1 and his body was put inside a septic tank by the accused. It was reported that a contractor was involved in the act because Mukesh had reported on a road project that the contractor had constructed.The contractor, Suresh Chandrakar, who is also reportedly a Congress member, has now been arrested from Hyderabad. The other accused were previously arrested by the police which included Mukesh's cousin. It was revealed during the interrogation that Mukesh's report on alleged corruption in road construction in Bijapur was the main trouble point. The report aired on his YouTube channel, Bastar Junction, on December 25. After this, Mukesh's cousin, Suresh and others planned the grisly crime and called him for dinner at the contractor's place.Here, they had an argument with him on the matter and then, his cousin hit him with iron and others too attacked him brutally. Reportedly, Mukesh was tortured before the culprits killed him and hid his body in the septic tank.ALSO READ | Soon after the news, the administration initiated action against the accused's illegal properties and encroachments. The authorities razed a construction yard built by Suresh Chandrakar after usurping forest land along Bijapur-Gangaloor Road.Police also began the process of freezing the bank accounts of Suresh Chandrakar and other accused. As of now, three accounts of Suresh Chandrakar have been put on hold, a report in PTI stated.Notably, Mukesh Chandrakar had played a key role in the release of CoBRA commando Rakeshwar Singh Manhas from Maoist captivity in April 2021 after the Takalguda Naxal ambush in Bijapur. In the ambush, 22 security personnel were martyred.
