Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh):

What a relief!

Amidst talks about the names of some people which the Income Tax Department raids on the residential premises of some builders brought to light, there are a few bureaucrats who are looking very happy. One such builder offered a proposal for investment to some of these officers. Two IAS officers even inspected the project in which they were ready to invest money.

Because they suddenly changed their mind about investing money in the project, they heaved a sigh of relief after the I-T Department raids. They are, however, worried about the call records which contain the details of their conversations with the builder. The raids on the residential premises of a person in Gwalior revealed the names of a few officers. As some of them invested money through this person, they are worried. An officer is using his contacts to keep his name off media headlines.

Success eludes

A senior IPS officer, who was holding an important post, was finally removed from the position in the midst of talks which had been going on for a long time. There were discussions that the officer would be removed, but another IPS officer, who made all efforts to grab the position, failed to hit the jackpot. He has been pulling out all the stops to get that coveted post and expressed his intentions about it before the senior officers. The name of another IPS officer was also discussed along with his name for the post, but their names were rejected. Some other officer was considered for it. Now, the people in the corridors of power are trying to find the reasons behind considering the name of this officer for the post. There are reports that the government was searching for an officer who could end the disputes in the department. A senior officer suggested the name of this Sahib for the post, and the head of the state put his seal on it.

Farewell thrice

An officer generally gets farewell only once, but a Sahib, holding a constitutional position, was given farewell three times. The Sahib, in fact, thanked all his colleagues just a day before his last working day and sent all his personal items to home. But suddenly, on his last working day, the government issued an order extending the tenure of service. And he began to come to the office as usual.

Then, after three months of this order, considering the possibilities of a madam being posted to the department, the Sahib bade goodbye to his colleagues. This time, a party was also thrown and a photo session organised as remembrance, but since an order transferring the madam to the department was not issued, the Sahib continued to come to office even after his farewell.  After the appointment of a new incumbent in office, the Sahib was again given a warm send-off. But this time, the farewell was final. In this way, the Sahib has become the first officer to get a farewell thrice.

Raids and links

The raids carried out on the residential premises of a former constable of the Transport Department Saurabh Sharma have triggered anxiety among some officers. Sharma’s dairy contains such names as, if revealed, may raise a storm. The name of such a senior IAS officer is in discussion. About him, it is said that the Sahib had links with Sharma who got some work done through this low-profile officer. Sharma used to visit the officer’s residence. Ergo, after the raids on Sharma’s residential premises, the officer is feeling edgy, fearing lest his name should be connected to the case. This image-conscious officer is keeping an eye on the latest developments in the case. He has made a lot of money through offstage deals, but he upkeeps such affairs, so well that his name never comes to light.

In good book

A Principal Secretary (PS) has finally won the confidence of Bade Sahib. The PS had been trying to be in Bade Sahib’s good book for a long time. About this officer, it is said that however good he may be at his work, he is an exceptional conversationalist and presents his points on any project with cogent arguments. He has been pulled up on some occasions after Bade Sahib’s joining, but he has been able to please the boss. Now, he is counted as one of those who generate innovative ideas, and there are reports that he is getting due importance in official meetings. The officer has been trying to get a plum posting, and though his efforts often brought results, he failed to stick to one position for long for some reasons. The Sahib hopes he will get an important position in the coming days.

CS-in-waiting

Desires for higher positions are awakened quickly in bureaucracy. A few officers generate such aspirations in the mind of their senior colleagues, and this has happened to an IAS officer working for the Centre on deputation. Some of his colleagues from the state met him in Delhi and said to him that he would be the next Chief Secretary in MP. Though the Sahib initially treated this remark as gossip, saying that the tenure of the present CS would be extended, the remark of his colleagues awakened his aspirations for becoming the next head of the state bureaucracy.

Now, he thinks like the present Bade Sahib, he too can come from Delhi to Bhopal and control the reins of the state bureaucracy. The Sahib has begun to say that if he gets a chance, he will have no objection to becoming the CS. With the arrival of the New Year, people in the corridors of power natter whether the Bade Sahib stays at the helm of affairs or another officer is going to take over. Against this backdrop, the officer posted in Delhi has also joined the group of CS-in-waiting.
